The deer living in and around Nara Park are nationally protected. The deer in the park are accustomed to people, but they are wild animals, so precautions must be taken. Please understand this to avoid any accidents.
• Do not feed the deer anything but deer crackers.
• Stags during the mating season (September to November) and mother deer during the fawn-raising season (May to August) can be aggressive, and there are many incidents of people getting injured by a deer goring or charging, so please be careful.
• Excessive physical contact with the deer can lead to incidents. Children and the elderly should be especially careful.
Note: Deer crackers (Shika-senbei) are a registered trademark of the Nara Deer Preservation Foundation.
