If you are purchasing an item from a store in Japan that has a defect, even if it is only a slight scratch, that would reduce the value of the item, we recommend that you check the condition of the item on the spot at the time of purchase or immediately after purchase. If there is a defect that concerns you, show the item to the store staff on the spot and request action.

A store that has sold a defective item is obligated to exchange it for or otherwise provide a defect-free item. However, if you fail to notice the defect for a long period after the purchase, such as after you have returned to your country, it will be nearly impossible to request a replacement because it cannot be determined how long the item has been defective, and it may have occurred through the handling of the item after your purchase.
